Stars from Jennifer Lopez to Cara Delevingne are embracing the cutout trend - here's how to avoid wardrobe malfunctions | The Sun

LOOKS like the dog got hold of these dresses – or someone went at them with the scissors.

In fact, it is the very latest in style.

Instead of heaving cleavage and thigh-high hemlines, it is all about the cut-away frock.

Love Islander Maura Higgins braved the look in chilly February at the London Fashion Show, and now anyone who is anyone is at it.

High Street shops are in on the act as well, so you too can dare to bare like the stars.

But it is not an easy look to pull off, as our Fashion Editor Clemmie Fieldsend warns below.

Here, EMMA PIETRAS looks at how the top celebrities cut to the chase, and marks each of their efforts as a hit or a miss.

Reality TV star Maura, 31, became a household name after starring in Love Island so she’s no stranger to flashing the flesh.

But the usually stylish star hit a bum note in this extreme cut out gown that left little to the imagination when she braved the cold weather earlier this year.

SHE is one of the hottest singers of the moment and it is not just her music that everyone is talking about.

American Madison, 23, proudly showed off her amazing figure, including some serious underboob, in this racy Dolce & Gabbana gown at a Hollywood party last week.

J-LO is well known for being a real trendsetter – just think of those Juicy Couture tracksuits in her music videos in the early Noughties.

Last week the 52-year-old showcased her curves to the max in this get-up for the premiere of her Netflix documentary Halftime, about her life and career, at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.

THE supermodel could make even a bin liner look stylish.

Cara, 29, is effortlessly chic in this dress slashed to the navel and complete with thigh-high side split at the Cannes Film Festival last month.

At least she didn’t have to worry about spilling things down her front.

THE Hollywood star is as noted for her stylish red carpet credentials as she is for her acting.

Bryce, 41, opted for this figure-scrunching dress, with zig-zag design in the bodice, at the Jurassic World: Dominion premiere in Los Angeles last week.

But while she was bang on trend, the gown sadly proved rather less than flattering.

SHE knows how to get tongues wagging but maybe needs to remember that less can sometimes be more.

Never one to be accused of being demure, the 33-year-old Hollyoaks favourite teamed a barely there dress with a banging beehive hairdo and opera gloves.

All a bit much, I’m afraid.

OLYMPIAN sprinter is the fastest woman in Britain – so it’s no surprise she has been quick to get with the latest fashion.

The 26-year-old looked stunning in this Victoria Beckham design, cut away at the front, for the Bafta TV awards last month.

Dina’s fabulous figure, honed from long hours at the track and gym, only adds to the impact.

MIND the gap! Slashed dresses are so cutting edge right now.

It used to mean a hole at the hip here, a slit on the thigh there, but these days it is more extreme.

The trend has moved from red carpet to High Street, too.

But if you’re planning to dance the night away in a club, beware.

The likes of Hollywood siren J-Lo, Hollyoaks actress Chelsee Healey and US singer Madison Beer are all fans of less (fabric) is more, but if you want to try the trend yourself, maybe don’t go too far too fast.

Just a sliver of skin on show makes any outfit sultry, and it’s always best to show off a part of your body you want to show off.

Exercise a little caution and you’re less likely to have an awkward wardrobe malfunction.

But if you are daring to bare a little more, be sure everything is in its rightful place with the help of double-sided tape – especially when it comes to underboob.

You can have a hole lot of fun with cut-away clobber – but the golden rule is make sure to keep it trendy rather than trashy.
