Save yourself some dollars on treats!

Forget the wreath and boughs of holly because it’s not Christmas yet unless your home happens to be in a shopping centre. But I digress...

I’m here to discuss Halloween, not Christmas.

This year we’re going to decorate the front door like a big scary face (though hopefully not too scary – we don’t want the kids to think the door is going to eat them). And when you’re done with decorating the front door your home could well be the graveyard smash of the neighbourhood.

You can apply the techniques shown in the video to come up with your own front door feature creature face. You could make your door look like Dracula, Frankenstein’s monster, or any other Halloween monster that comes to mind. How would you decorate your door?

Note: When decorating the door with large sheets of paper you can poster paper, wrapping paper or crepe paper.

Prepare facial pieces. Cut out a massive half-oval mouth on black paper, rectangular eyes on white paper, half-circle eyelids on orange paper, rough teeth on white paper and a hat buckle on purple paper. To make the hair cut strips of green crepe paper in varying lengths.

To make the nose, glue and wrap purple crepe around the foam cone. Attach mounting tape to the base of the nose.

Apply double-sided tape to the outside frame of the front door. Stick a large black poster sheet to the top of the door. Stick sheets of purple crepe paper to the remaining lower section of the door. Cut out holes in the crepe sheet to make space for the door handle and locking mechanisms.

Glue strips ribbon across the black poster creating a band. Then glue the pre-cut purple paper buckle onto the ribbons. Glue the pre-cut facial details to the middle of the purple section of the door. Stick the conical nose to the witch’s face just above the mouth. Glue the strips of green crepe across the top of the purple crepe, creating a hairline.
