Craft for kids: Make a DIY potpourri bag with an upcycled face mask | Kidspot

Comes in handy when your darling child turns into a stinky teen... mask and you shall receive.

Whether it’s the Dark Ages or the Light Ages (LOL) one thing remains the same... The earthy odour you can smell is most likely emitting from the kids' bedroom.

To combat this smell the kids can make their own potpourri bags using leftover disposable facemasks. These little bags can be placed anywhere – clothing drawers, school bags, inside shoes (Overnight of course, not while they are being worn.)

Cut off the face mask ear loops. Put the ear loops aside because we will use these later. Cut off the short sides of the face mask. Cut a small opening in the wire tube and remove the wire. Cut along the second creased fold, separating the face mask into two sections – one larger and one small.

Open out the creased folds of the large facemask piece

Glue along the side and bottom edge of the coloured side of the face mask. Fold the piece in half closing the edges together – it is now a pouch. Turn the pouch through, colour side out.

Cut long parallel lines into the small face mask piece. These will become the tassels. Apply double-sided tape along the top edge of the tassel piece. Roll up the glued tassel edge with colour side facing out

Cut an ear loop in half. Glue one end of a half ear loop to the top of the tassel. Glue the other end of the ear loop to the bottom of the pouch. Glue the ends of the second small ear loop together. Glue the small loop to the inside edge of the pouch.

Fill the pouch with potpourri. Tie the pouch closed, making a bow with the large ear loop. Glue a few ornamental buttons to the front of the pouch.
