Portland folk/American artist J. Nicolás recently released his first album, Wild Oak, which was created while driving. The album was designed and mixed by Tobias Berblinger and mastered by Telegraph Mastering's Amy Dragon.

According to Nicholas, “Sports has many healing effects. It is not to escape, but to travel through the world, see other places and things, and understand yourself better.”

Nicolás played in the Portland Band for nearly 20 years and toured the United States. He recorded Wild Oak on one-inch tapes at Singing Sands in Portland and Capricorn Studios in San Diego. Featured in the album are Sydney Nash (piano, keyboard), Alan Hunter (bass), Joe Mengyes (drums), Still Pitt (pedal steel) and Azzaros (harmony).

Containing 10 tracks, the highlights of the album include "Always Be Mine", vaguely reminiscent of Dan Fogelberg, but with more local accents and country flavors than Fogelberg has ever used. The cry of the steel guitar contrasts sharply with the flash of the piano.

"Montana Luv" is a creamy, procrastinating country tune that provides a wonderful tone for Nicolás' sweet, harsh tone. "Please stay" starts with a darker, melancholic color, but still exudes an optimistic scent. Nicolás's voice is soft and gentle, exuding sweet enthusiasm and affection when telling stories of love and communication.

"Elisabeth" unfolds on a soft guitar, accompanied by Steely Pete's crying steel guitar, which is both vulgar and soft, because Nicolás's voice injects warmth and nostalgia into the lyrics. "Will You Love Me Again" evokes memories of Buddy Miller, only Nicolás's wonderful tenor, its twists, contagious nuances and subtle tone.

The last track "I Miss You" shows the dynamic range of Nicholas' voice, which includes the ability to deliver smooth, high pitch, and endless colors.

Wild oak is exquisitely matched, and cashmere with a delicious rustic flavor is distilled into the American environment and embellished by the luxurious sound of J. Nicolás.
